Yesterday my pal Dena and I had a fun dive. We started out heading towards the marine room reefs, as our first encounter last week was incredible! There is a slight swell making it's way to us so we immediately noticed the surge on our swim over. So the back up plan was to cruise the south walls going north if viz was icky at the marine room reefs. Well I say about 5 minutes of surge and 5 foot viz we turned around and swam north. Viz was surprisingly better in the shallows yesterday about 15ft. But once you hit the south slope it dropped to about 8ft. A little creepy so we decided to just cruise across the south sand dollar beds and look for octopus. AND OCTPUSS WEFOUND!! Amazing we kept turning over the big white shells looking fro them when finally SCORE! We flooded our mask giggling at it. He was the size of my palm very cute. Found another one even smaller sleeping in a turned over shell. Now for the grand finally, we were swimming across a desert of sand when right in front of us was an odd looking plant like thing, then it materialized into a rather large octopus. I grabbed Dena in silly shock and she realized what we were looking at too. Sneaky guy he was trying to fool us. We must of came up on him by suprise so he used his feather boa kelp disguise on us, hmm clever. All in all a great dive, some mild current running south closer to shore. Water temp 59 on the surface and a definite thermocline at 30-40ft. ps also seen my first horn shark in the eel grass over out front of the white house. SOOO AWSOME! Get out there bubble heads, it's always an adventure! :)
