While teaching a private Open Water Course today I was able to find a piece of the missing Ancient River. For those of you who have not witnessed an unveiling of the Ancient River, it is an area rich in archaeological findings from a verity of time periods that can be arguably be regard as a natural phenomenon. You see the swells that come from the North at the end of Fall brings a bunch of sand and covers the area between La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Canyon. The strong South swells at end of Spring removes this sand. Sometimes the Spring South swells removes a lot of sand and sometimes it doesn't remove much at all. In fact, La Jolla has the most underwater Native American Artifacts in all of the New World. Well today I found a couple nice rocks in the sandy desert in front of the La Jolla Boat Launch in about 15'. While I was gently fanning off some of the sand to reveal more, a Thornback sprang out of nowhere and I don't know who got spooked more; my students, the Thornback, or me!
