My girlfriend and I took my boat out today for a scuba trip, as we both just acquired all of our scuba gear from the last tent sale at OE. We were originally going to go to the NOSC Tower for the first time, I had the GPS coordinates, and went to the exact location, but saw no buoy at all. I did a perimeter search for the buoy w/ the boat, and there is definitely no buoy. Anyway, we decided to dive the kelp forest instead, we anchored inbetween boomers and la jolla cove, in about 40ft. of water. Conditions were better than expected, with decent vis up to 20-25 feet. It was about 66 F at a depth of 45 ft. It was my girlfriends first boat and kelp bed dive, so all in all, it was a good dive. I do have one stupid question: Is your glove supposed to be on the outside of your wetsuit, or do you pull the wetsuit over the wrist of the glove? I've done both, and don't know which way is correct, but water did seep in when the glove was over the wetsuit.

There is no buoy at that tower.

I put my gloves outside of the wetsuit. Your instructor should have covered that. Where did you take your lessons?

Almost all of the neoprene gloves that I know of go on the outside of the wetsuit (booties almost always on the inside). What gear did you get? Like it? other than the gloves...

I took my OW cert classes back in 1996, I was a sophomore in high school I believe, I just simply didn't remember. Thanks for clarifying. I just bought for my girlfriend and I: 7mm Pinnacle Cruiser wetsuits, Pinnacle 5mm booties, and XS Scuba 3mm gloves, and a 5mm vented hoodie. It all performs great in shallower depths, but when I dove the Ruby E. last Sunday, at 80ft it was 55F, I was freezing!!

Try wearing a 1/2mil rash guard under your wetsuit or add a 1mm or 2mm Henderson HotSkins layer under your wetsuit to stay warm. Your might consider 7mm hardsole dive boots and at least 5mm gloves. The water will be in the upper 40's on the Yukon and everywhere else below 90feet this winter!! Also, there was a buoy on the NOSC Tower. It disappeared during the high surf advisory a couple of weeks ago. My buddy and I tied off his boat to it last month and decended down the mooring line to the tower I-beam it was secured to. Got some great scallops off the structure.
