I'll be in San Diego for a seminar Tuesday January 27 and I'm planning on coming out the weekend before and would like to get as much diving as possible in while I'm there. I've never dove San Diego so any recommendations on shops, sites or boats are welcome.

I was certified up through divemaster in Monterey in 1979. I took some years off from diving while I finished school and raised a family. Three or four years ago I got back into diving and have gotten my AI since. I live in northern Illinois so I've done some quarry and lake diving around here and have been down to the keys a couple times. I'm 50 but fit and am a certified life guard.

I'd like to dive the Yukon and some kelp, but I'm flexible. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

welcome in advance to san diego. all the charter dive boats that I know of leave out of Quivira Basin in Mission Bay. There's a handful of them but the one I like best is The Humboldt. There's three main guys there- Ryan, Lee, and Greg. Their site is www.waterhorsecharters.com. If you want to shore dive, La Jolla's the place to go. Google "Dive La Jolla" or something similar and you should get some responses. As far as I know, there's only one full-service dive shop and they're in La Jolla Shores. Google "OEX La Jolla" and they should come up. Cool guys there, too, know the area real well. Good luck, enjoy your dive. Post what you think of the diving here :cheers2:

+1 on the Humboldt - great crew and fantastic boat! Call ahead and you should be able to set up whatever you want :)

Hopefully you will find enough other folks to make the minimum for the trip....
