I met up with 6 other divers from our Meetup group this morning to do a shore dive at Cardiff. None of us have ever dove here prior to this morning, so we were all excited to get wet.
The surf was small and manageable, we all got out with no issues and kicked our way to the kelp line. We partnered off and made our way to the bottom. Visibility was not very good, maybe 8 ft.
The reefs were loaded with life including calico bass, sand bass, sheepshead, mackerel, soupfin shark, lobster and much more.
2 of our divers brought along cameras, so hopefully they'll post up some pictures from today's dive

It's right out front on the life guard tower, here is a pic!
Also I was talking to a life guard in Encinitas and he told
me that if you go about 400 yards north of moonlight beach
there's a awesome dive spot out 25' to 30' feet deep, he said
there's some good coral down there with lots of life!

Fun dive with some fun people - you all should join us next time! It was quite a swim/float to get out to the kelp but worth it! We were thinking of kayaking out next time and starting on the outside of the kelp in deeper water, vis might improve north of the river mouth, too.
About 2 minutes into the dive I apparently lost 5# of lead out of my trim pocket in the back, must not have buckled it. Craziest part is that Paris found it while he was diving. So the entire morning he was heavy and I couldn't stay down very easily. Bummer!
I did have the camera but the bouyancy problems kept me from taking much time for it. A few shots that show how rough the vis was...

I'm really too much of a rookie to answer that question with any authority but it breathes easily and I'm not dead so there's a couple good things. :D
The flow control knob is nice and if you leave it all the way closed you can breathe way longer (Nate figured this out the hard way).

good thought but it doesn't exactly work that way. breathing off a regulator with the flow control knob closed will actually make you use more air. the harder it is to breathe off a regulator and the more effort you use to draw in air, or do anything else, will cause you to build up carbon dioxide in your body. carbon dioxide build up is what makes your brain want to breath.
basically, the easier it is to breathe off the regulator, the less air you will eventually use because you are minimizing your effort underwater. you have a bitchin SR1! take advantage, open the flow control, bro!
if you want to conserve air, try humming on your exhale, that works. and as an added bonus, it drives your dive buddy nuts.

Good point and is true, only close it all the way at the surface
or upside down, sideways or swimming in a current!
That's what I just had to read anyway... Never owned
an adjustable reg! :p

Or you can scroll down click on manage attachments... Click
on browse on the 1st bar and find the photo in your photos
and then click on upload and your done! In the windows edit
you can stretch and skew the photo to 70% that shrinks it
to under 500kb! It's right under the submit reply button on
this forum, here is an example!

Ha ha it's in alien from the world of nudibranchs called Peltodoris mullineri He was chillin out at the shack in Cornados. He told me he had plans to take over the world muuuuuuaha hah ahaaaha ha!! Are you still looking for a dive buddie tomorrow? Myself and my girlfriend were thinking of going, she's a warm water diver though and has not been out i awhile so I don't know if that would appeal to you. However I know she is very comfortable in the water as she surfs all the time. Any hoo she just text me saying she may or may not go. So my long winded questions is............. can I go scuba dooba with the club if you guys are going tomorrow? I'll bring the camera:)
