Hello fellow trippers of dive land. I dove the cove and LJS yesterday, thought I would share. Believe it or not the cove proved to be a better dive. Entry around 11:30-12:00, surface temp 60, slight thermocline around 20ft not too bad though. Slight surge, viz 10-15ft. The cove is almost always a gem no matter the surge. We swam through about 30 opal eyes with some sargo around the backside of the school, THAT WAS AWSOME! Completely flat no waves to speak of, it seemed to want to pull us towards boomers though. Say that reminds me I kept hearing this loud boom under water every 4minuites or so. Was this just the waves crashing at boomers? It was sooooooooooooo loud I thought maybe Point Loma was blowing some thing up in the water, weird. Next La Jolla shores, entry was just right of the boat launch around 3:30. Talk about muck diving, wow! My buddy and I held hands & crawled west across the sand until we actually got lucky enough to see the east wall. We decided to keep going once we got there in hopes it would clear with depth. No such luck but wow we still had an amazing dive. There is an octopus out towards the north plateau that is the biggest I have ever seen. I have seen her/him before in the hole but yesterday we got a very good look as it was on the edge of its lair. The tentacles themselves look as big as my fore arms, oh did I mention how buff I am:)The lobster are everywhere, and the piddocks were feasting on all the muck. Any hoo we inched our way along the wall until about 1500psi then headed across the very surgy desert of sand. Thank goodness for a compass. Came across a huge sand hole, bat ray maybe? Yeah he/she was probably the one stirring up all that muck he he. No long shore or rip currents present, hopefully the viz has cleared up a bit. Get out there and have some fun. PS LJS surf was 1-2ft temp 60 on the surface 57 at depth.
