4-5-07 Canyon Dive (THE BATS ARE BACK!)

Very calm out there today. We are starting to see the big bat rays on the canyon wall feeding and such which meens that Spring is in the air. I've seen these guys, or rather the big ones would be gals, with up to a 6' wing span. They can stir up the sand a lot but that's all part of diving La Jolla Canyon.

Holy cow, a 6' wingspan? That's one hell of a bat ray.

Indeed sir Jimmie I came upon a nice 4ft female on the top pf the east wall yesterday. Wow what a site! She let us get real close to watch her feasting on some tasty grub. I would like to also mention mr.mola mola. We had a good size ocean sunfish follow us along the plateau and around the point. I think it wanted to play with us, so curious and cute. This is the second time in 6 months I have been so lucky as to see one of these fish. They are normally open ocean fish am I right? Any hoo awesome dive! Keep your eyes peeled for him I named him pooky:)
